The Steelers took a necessary step, in my mind, of getting some insurance yesterday. If you haven't heard, the Steelers signed OL Max Starks to a one-year contract for the upcoming season. After fielding several text messages about this move, most were very pleased with the move, except for one. This person (who shall not be named at this time) said it wasn't a good move. First, I feel that Max Starks is a better tackle (if healthy) that Jonathan Scott. Scott has been turned inside and out by the NFL's best OLB and DE time and time again. Sure, the Steelers drafted a Tackle the last two years, but who is to say that Mike Adams is NFL ready from Day 1?? Trust me, I hope that he is and that Max Starks is simply an insurance policy, but if Adams isn't ready to take that step, then Max Starks has the experience to get the job done as he proved that last season. I am very comfortable saying that I doubt the Steelers would have signed Starks if he wasn't 100% healthy. On Twitter yesterday (you can follow me @bngblitz) Starks said he got an extremely good report from his doctor, and that led to the contract. This will make for some exciting training camp news as to how he handles the work load of training camp, and how he picks up the new blocking schemes of Todd Haley.
The Steelers are making sure that a rookie doesn't derail what could be a Super Bowl season. You don't think the Steelers have what it takes to get to the big dance? Take a look at their schedule and figure out the 'W's and L's' and let me know how you think they will finish. I will be having my predictions on the site soon...also, look forward to a podcast sometime this week filled with NOTHING BUT PITTSBURGH SPORTS NEWS!
