"CUTCH" and the Pirates Continue Hot Streak!!

The Pittsburgh Pirates continue their winning ways as they defeated the Brewers last night 6-4 in a crazy, come from behind victory.  To me, the most impressive part of the Pirates this season hasn't been their pitching (we knew they had SOME potential after last season), but the fact that they are really hitting well.  In the past 2 months, the Pirates are in the top 5 in MLB in terms of slugging, batting average, and scoring.  So much for those horrid Pirates bats.  Trust me, I've been a Pirates fan for over 20 years and I know this thing can turn south quickly (see last season after the 19 inning Braves fiasco).  The Pirates are again 10 games over the .500 mark and it doesn't look like this team has any intention of having a let down similar to last season.  "Cutch" is having himself a MVP type season, and the Pirates are riding him "till the wheels fall off". A big question for me is to see if the Pirates can actually contend for the long haul with starters like Eric Bedard and Brad Lincoln slated against solid clubs.  I was at the Baltimore Orioles game at Camden Yards and saw just how bad this team can play first hand...it wasn't pretty.  Clint Hurdle deserves some Manager of the Year votes for what he has done with this team, but until they win their division, or make the playoffs via a wild card, the Pirates and Hurdle will be brushed aside again for another year as a "up and coming team".  If the Pirates keep winning 2 of 3 in these 3 game sets, then there is no need to think that CONTENTION isn't out of the question.  Certainly, all Pirates fans have said they wanted these past 20 years was just a winning season, but I must say that if they break the streak but don't contend all year myself and all of the Pirates fans across the nation will be a little disappointed.  Lets hope they steal another game at Miller Park today!

Time to Raise the Jolly Roger!
