It was announced that Joey "J. Peezy" Porter will be hanging up the cleats as his knee issues have not improved to the point where he feels he can still play at a high level. Porter also said that he has already spoken to the Steelers front office regarding him signing a one-day contract so he can retire a Pittsburgh Steeler. Porter played 8 season with the Steelers and was drafted from Colorado State. A Super Bowl champion and multiple Pro-Bowl player, this sports fan will miss "Peezy". I always compared Joey Porter to Ray Lewis...not necessarily in skill (although I can't stand Lewis he is probably the best ILB to play in the modern era) but simply by the fact that if he is on your favorite team you love him, and if he isn't, you hate him. I will always remember Joey Porter walking around during warm ups with his jersey rolled up showing off his abs and talking endless trash to the opposition. I remember the NFL putting in the "Joey Porter Rule" which stated that no players were allowed in the 10 yard "buffer zone" on either side of the 50 yd line during warm ups after Joey Porter clobbered several Cleveland Browns before a matchup with the sad organization in northern Ohio. Porter also brings back memories of him getting shot in the buttocks outside of a Denver night club and declaring, "They shot me in Denver!!" after the Steelers defeated Peyton Manning and the Colts in the 2005 playoffs to advance to the AFC Championship game in Denver. Ah yes, that 2005 AFC Divisional game. That is a great memory of Joey Porter. I will never forget him coming free time and time again and trying to literally rip Peyton Manning's head off. That has to be up there with the most exciting Steelers games of all time. I also remember when Porter was told he would be let go by the Steelers and was drawing interest from both the Bengals and Ravens...he told both teams he would never play there because no matter what he is a Steeler and couldn't play against the Steelers twice a season. That is what a Steeler is all about!
You have a favorite "Peezy" memory? What is it? Leave it in the comment section...if I get enough I'll post them together!
Joey Porter...forever a STEELER!
I have too many Peezy Memories to mention. He was by far one of my favorite Steelers.
ReplyDeleteOh, Wait, I thought it was hilarious when he got kicked out of the Browns game before it even started for fighting 2 running backs in warm ups. I think the NFL has a rule that teams cannot warm up past the 40 yard line because of him.
ReplyDeleteMa$e, did you even read the article? Jeff Peezy already talked about that incident. Lay off the booze!
