Not too long ago I wrote a post about the Flyers Claude Giroux breaking an NHL 'Code' for complaining about his injury and claiming that Sidney Crosby was the reason for the injury. Hockey players are a different breed. They don't tell anyone about their injuries and just play through them. Maybe Steelers QB needs to take a page out of the 'NHL Playbook'.
Before I go any further, I should tell you what intrigued me to write this post. News broke this morning that Ben told media outlets that he has a "partially torn rotator cuff" in his throwing shoulder. He described it as when you pull apart string cheese, and not torn sideways and completely torn. Roethlisberger also said that his shoulder is sore (mostly because of throwing more in training camp), but there is no pain.
I'm sure that there are plenty of NFL players walking around with partially torn ligaments in their arms and legs that aren't running to the media to tell them about it. Some of you might be reading this saying that I am a Big Ben hater. You couldn't be more false. I've like Ben since he came into the league. He is the only player's jersey I own. I love the way he plays the game, but I am alone in my family when it comes to my affection for #7. My father and brother both say that Big Ben is a Drama Queen. I've always pushed that aside, until now. I feel there is no need for Ben to say that he has a torn rotator cuff unless he simply needs to have the attention on him all of the time.
I feel like uses these small and minor injuries as a crutch in case he doesn't succeed. Such action would lead you to believe that he lacks confidence in his own ability, but history has proven that he makes the plays more than he doesn't. Lets get one thing straight - just because he talked about his rotator cuff doesn't mean I'm not going to like/root for Big Ben anymore. Its just one of the things I don't really like about the guy, but there is no one else I'd rather have under center for the Black n' Gold on Sundays, or Mondays, or Thursdays.
Do you think Ben needs to shut his mouth about these minor injuries, or are you okay with him voicing his concern about his body??
Shut your pie hole and play the game.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the same thing. If your arm is in pain, talk about it, if it's just sore, don't talk about it. I think he likes to tell fans how much pain he's in because it adds to his folklore status.
