Screw the Playoffs - Will the Pirates Even Have a Winning Season?!

Lets Hope This Team Can Get Things Together!
Cue Jim Mora - "Playoffs?! Playoffs?? We can't even win a game and you're talking about Playoffs?!".  Every Pittsburgh Pirates fan should take Coach Mora's words to heart, because to me it isn't about playoffs anymore.  For those BNG Blitz fans who check the site waiting for Pirates updates on a regular basis...they haven't been coming.  They haven't been written because it pains me to write the same thing about the team.  They are what they are, and it doesn't look like anything is going to change that.  However, as we watch this 2012 Pittsburgh Pirates team fold like a cheap lawn chair, it begs the question: Will this team even end the season 82-80, or will this year be just another year on its way to 21 seasons without a winning record.  Let me say this before I go into the details on whether or not they will win more than they lose...if they finish with one more loss that victory this could be one of the biggest collapses in baseball.  This team was at one point 16-games OVER .500.  I'll say that again - 16 Games OVER .500.  Lets see what they have to do to end the dreaded streak.

The main statistic that everyone needs to remember is that in the Pirates final 32 games, 23 of those teams have a sub .500 record.  13 of those 23 games will be played against the Chicago Cubs and the Houston Astros.  If you are a fan like me, you are reading this saying, "The Pirates don't play well against the Cubs, and who knows if they could even beat a Single-A team right now".  Nonetheless, the Pirates have that going for them as they enter their stretch run.  They are currently 9 games over .500 and the first time they've been only single digits above .500 since early June.

With all of this winning season talk, it still leaves me with one thing that makes me angry about this Pirates team.  They've played  bad, and I mean BAAAD, but you know what number means the most? 2 - The number of games they are behind the Cardinals for the 2nd wild card spot in the NL Wild Card race.  This team just keeps you hanging on.  A part of me just wishes they would lose the rest of their games so I can just go on with my life and move on to the Steelers, but they just keep you hanging on.  If they somehow decided to remove their heads from the anuses (is that the correct grammar of the plural for a singular anus??  Someone check that for me) then maybe...just maybe they can create some semblance of a season.  I wish I could say I think it is going to happen, but I can't anymore.  Time will tell...lets just hope they throw away the cheap lawn chair that keeps folding and buy a sturdy Coleman chair for the remainder of the season!

  1. According to the trusty ol' internet, you are correct...it is anuses. I am really worried about this team right now. Let's hope they can just finish over .500. It would be a huge disappointment with the way they were playing a couple of months ago, but at least it will end the streak.
