SteelerNation - Don't Jump Off A Cliff Just Yet |
You can't avoid it. The only people who want to are people who's favorite NFL team dropped their opener Wednesday, Sunday, or Monday night. Nonetheless, wherever you turn, wherever you listen, whatever you watch...its there. There should be road signs everywhere saying "Caution - Over Reaction Ahead". If you haven't gotten to the point where you are wondering what in the heck I'm talking about, its simple. I'm referring to the NFL fan-bases that are going GONZO for their teams who won in Week 1 and are now Superbowl bound, and the fan-bases that are at Def-Con 4 because their favorite teams might have lost in Week 1. Chalk me up to the latter of those two evils.
I would be okay with the chatter and "ribbing" that comes along with fans who's favorite team might have won big on Week 1. For crying out loud I live in Maryland where I am surrounded by Redskins and Ravens fans. Both teams won big in Week 1, and they let me know that as much as possible that my beloved Steelers lost to Peyton Manning and the Broncos. It isn't the fans that bother me, its the "experts". If you read the blog often you should know that I always put quotations around that word. For instance, Mike Greenberg from Mike and Mike in the Morning is about as much of an expert on NFL football as I am. I probably have more playing experience than him, but he also has a nationally syndicated radio program too. Still, there are other radio personalities that are crowing the Ravens for winning big at home on Monday Night Football, and saying the Green Bay Packers are horrible after losing to the 49ers on Sunday. Let me stop everyone. The Green Bay Packers are alot like the Steelers. They lost to a good team, a really good team, in the 49ers. Who is to say their season is over? Whos to say their offense isn't good just because they faced a good defense? The Packers ARE good, and will rebound...I guarantee it. The New York Jets only scored 1 offensive TD in the preseason, but since they hung 48 up on the Bills everyone thinks they are the proud owners of an offensive juggernaut. Let me see them do that against the Steelers and I'll be more than happy to say I was wrong, but I don't see it happening. Oh, and I've also been told that RGIII and the Redskins are now going to win the Superbowl after a win in New Orleans...please.
This type of Over Reaction always has me shaking my head. If you've learned anything from the NFL in the past 10-15 years its simply that you never know whats going to happen week to week. Let alone from year to year. Teams like the Bengals, Packers, and Steelers are going to be significant players in their divisions and their conferences. Some teams don't come out of the gates fast, and some teams just have bad games. Lets not anoint anyone yet, and lets not say that anyone's season is over either. Try to avoid the over-reaction bug that is going around. Just remember, the Steelers lost BIG in week 1 last year, and still finished 12-4...not too bad. Bring on the Jets.
AMEN, All the hype of Superbow Bound teams is amazing. Bring on the Jets. Let's see who is left standing in the end..
