There is Always that ONE Fan that is just NEVER happy. See her (I mean the fan that isn't happy...haha)? |
I couldn't help but get on my iphone and check Twitter last night. Upon checking those usual twitter handles that talk about just Pittsburgh sports (like myself - @BnGBlitz) I was disheartened to see that alot of fans were extremely upset / pissed off about the way the Steelers performed yesterday in their 16-14 victory over the Eagles. Was I 100% ecstatic with the effort and execution? No, I'm not sure anyone was ecstatic about that. However, I also realize that the Steelers WON THE GAME.
If you have just started watching / following the Steelers, you might not know this. However, everyone that has followed this team for the last 15 years knows that sometimes they win ugly. Ugly is a good way to explain the first quarter of yesterday's game. All those penalties, botched snaps, and the defense picking up where they left off 2 weeks ago against Carson Palmer and the Raiders.
Did I mention though, that THEY WON THE GAME?! At what point does "SteelerNation" get so into games that we even criticize the team after a win? Since when is winning not enough?! The Steelers have alot to improve on, and when they lose, they should be criticized by the fans. The players probably hold themselves to a high standard as well. However, when the team wins, at least give them a week off.
You can be the fan that looks at the glass half empty. Those are the fans that saw the penalties, the dropped passes, the botched snaps, the inability to sack Michael Vick, the inability for our secondary to stay with the Eagles WR and just complain like crazy. OR, you could be the fan that I have become, and that is the glass half full fan. That fan is the fan that saw the Steelers show some balance on offense, welcomed back Rashard Mendenhall in a BIG way, saw Lawrence Timmons play like the No. 1 pick we all knew he could become, saw Jason Worilds fill in well for injured Lamarr Woodley, saw an offense that put the team on its back and drove 80+ yards with 6 minutes left for the game winning field goal...all to WIN THE GAME!
Trust me, if you read this blog you know I can be hyper critical of all Pittsburgh Sports teams (especially the Pirates). However, one thing I've learned is to enjoy the victories. We (as SteelerNation) have become spoiled with Lombardi Trophies. One of my good friends is a Dolphins fan...you want to see someone who is miserable...just watch a 'phins game with him. He has no faith at all in his team, and why should he? They've been horrible since Marino retired. I then realized that we've been spoiled by a team that has been consistent in every facet of the word for the last 15+ years...if not more depending on how old you are. Take my advice my fellow members of "SteelerNation"...enjoy the wins...they might not come too often for anyone in the NFL (who saw the Packers going 2-3 after losing to the Colts yesterday?!). Save that criticism for a loss...
