NFL Breakdown / PREDICTION - Steelers vs Cowboys - THE NITTY GRITTY

The Steelers vs Cowboys = Big Games
Its a Steelers GAMEDAY as Pittsburgh takes its last road trip of the regular season.  The next time the team will travel would be in the playoffs, if they play up to their potential.  With that said, its time to get down to the NITTY GRITTY.  I give you the final 5 story lines heading into this matchup against the Cowboys...and at the end I give you my game prediction (which is always interesting).  Enjoy!

- Must Win Game - I realize the playoff scenarios.  I realize that the Steelers can STILL get into the playoffs if they lose today and win their final two, but in my opinion, the HAVE to win this game.  I would bet money that the Steelers are approaching this game with a must win mentality.  If the Steelers are victorious in Dallas today, it will keep them even with the Bengals and put them in the driver's seat heading into the Bengals matchup next week at Heinz Field.

- Coaching at a Premium - Both of these two head coaches have been scrutinized by both local and national media several times this year.  However, something that Jason Garret doesn't understand is that it doesn't matter what mistakes / risks you make or take during the regular season as long as you get your team to the postseason with a chance to play for a Lombardi trophy.  Mike Tomlin has been VERY successful at such a thing, and I look for him to rebound from his poor coaching performance last week (along with his coaching staff).  Tomlin has alot to rebound from.  His players doubted they were "prepared to play" (that falls on the coach), and there were several in game gaffes that turned out to be MUTE points but could have made a difference.  Everyone needs to clean it up today...Head Coach, Coordinators, and down the line.

- Which team will make the SPLASH play? - Something the Steelers haven't had recently is the "Splash Play" as Tomlin likes to call them.  Well, one of the reasons why there haven't been many of those is that Mike Wallace simply hasn't been catching the deep ball as well as he did last year.  The other would be due to so many injuries to the WR Corps and the defense.  A game like today's, the team that wins the turnover battle will most likely win the football game.  Sure, its easy to say that will be the Steelers because Tony Romo and the Cowboys always seem to turn it over, but wasn't the same thing said when "gun slinger" Phillip Rivers came to Heinz Field?  The defense needs to force those turnovers, and the offense needs to generate drives that include some big plays to make a difference in the football game.

- Play Like You Have Something To Prove - I am just a fan and I am pissed off today.  I want the Steelers to go into Dallas and hit someone in the mouth.  I want the Steelers to act like they were truly embarrassed last week (because they were) and that they have something to prove to themselves, their fans, and the rest of the league.  Its when the Steelers' backs are against the wall, when no one gives them a shot, and when it seems all hope is lost that this team USUALLY responds.  We will see what kind of response this team has when they play a mirror image of themselves in the Cowboys...a team that NEEDS to win.

- Prove that the "Nation" is better than "America's Team" - There aren't many times when fans feel like something is really on the line, but if you read my article about SteelerNation vs America's Team this is a game where the two fan bases have something to prove.  Its about bragging rights for the next 4 years.  Its about proving who is the best team in the nation (in terms of fan bases).  With that said, its time the Steelers show the world that its STEELERNATION that is dominant, not the faded old "America's Team".

- PREDICTION - Time for my "Homer Pick of the Week", which essentially boils down to how many points do I predict the Steelers will beat their opposition.  I'm obviously not always right (7-6), but I think the Steelers win this game.  I think the Steelers get a lead and the Cowboys' late surge proves too little, too late.

STEELERS - 24
Cowboys - 20
