Its Time for Pittsburgh to Celebrate These Pirates

Celebrate these Pirates Pittsburgh!!
It still gets under my skin how the Cincinnati Reds were criticizing the Pirates for celebrating their postseason birth.  I don't know why it bothers me so much.  Probably because as fans we have all waited a very long time for this day to come again...and its finally here.  With that being said, I write this to tell Pittsburgh one thing.  CELEBRATE!!  Celebrate the fact that the Pirates have reached the postseason again for the first time since 1992.  Celebrate the fact that the Pirates swept the Reds this past weekend to earn the right to play a game at PNC Park in front of their fans.  Just celebrate...plain and simple.

Alot of teams like the Reds and Cardinals that are perennial playoff contenders seem to overlook the postseason.  After all, when you win World Series Championships like the Cardinals, and become regulars in the postseason like many other teams, it becomes easy to just shrug off "getting in".  However, in Pittsburgh its a different story.  Everyone knows the tale, but that doesn't make it less significant.  Before the time of the game was announced to be 8:07pm (EST) there were rumors of a day game.  I was planning on taking off work.  When I told my wife of this news she shook her head in disgust.  After all, how would a girl that grew up in Maryland understand what this is like?  I was prepared to leave work and plant my rear end on my couch and be completely enthralled by the Pirates return to the postseason.

I don't care that its the Wild Card.  I don't care that this whole thing could come crashing down in one game.    What I DO care about is the Pittsburgh Pirates being relevant again, and enjoying every last second of it.  It almost seems fitting that the Steelers have struggled.  That seems ludicrous to say, but in reality, it allows the city to appreciate this team even more.  You don't have to worry about splitting time...I know that if the Pirates were playing a playoff game and the Steelers were playing, no doubt the Buccos would be on the "Boob Tube".

The city is planning rallies, the team is planning a "blackout" of PNC Park on Tuesday night, and the organization has been ultra thankful of the fans and their dedication this year and in past years.  So, Pittsburgh fans...follow suit.  Go out and celebrate.  Watch the game at a bar, watch with friends at home, channel into the "Buc Nation" on Twitter (I'm there, you can follow me @BnGBlitz) and become one of the crew on board the Pirates' vessel.  Lets just hope we all get to celebrate raising the jolly roger a few more times this year...
