Steelers Finally Win, But Pump The Brakes A Bit

Antonio Brown W/ His Trademark "First Down" Celebration
How fun was that?  Didn't it feel good to finally see the Steelers have more points than...well...ANYONE!  The Steelers finally gave their fan base something to cheer about, and it was a welcome site.  To finally see my Twitter timeline consist of something other than "These guys suck" tweets was a tiny victory in itself.  The win couldn't have come at a better time for the organization, the fan base, and the players.  The Pirates had done a tremendous job of diverting attention away from the historically bad 0-4 start.  Even the press at Mike Tomlin's press conference mentioned how sparsely attended the "presser" was due to the Pirates and Penguins stealing some of the attention from the normal "biggest show in town".  The Pirates season is over, the Penguins are off to their usual stellar start, and now the Steelers are on center stage again...and for the first time this season they actually responded.

As excited as the fan base, that includes me, is/was after the Jets game yesterday, it seems appropriate that I use my forum to tell the fanbase that it might be time to pump the brakes a little bit.  I can honestly say that I don't think I saw anyone promoting the Steelers to the Super Bowl after just one win, but what irked me the most were the fans that all of a sudden started "scoreboard watching".  To me, that term has always been synonymous with baseball.  A team down the stretch following other scores to see where they stand in possibly making the playoffs.  The term has now been lended to several sports, and the NFL is one of those sports.  The fact that SteelerNation felt that they all of a sudden were proclaiming Ravens and Browns losses, and bummed about the Bengals' overtime win made me chuckle.  The Steelers did win.  I am happy about that, but at the same time I am realistic.  Could this be a "spring board win" that will spring the Steelers on to further success and potentially make something out of nothing?  Well, time will tell.

What I do know is that the Steelers (and the fan base) need to simply take this thing one game at a time.  Don't worry about what anyone else is doing for one main reason...the Steelers still are a pretty inconsistent team.  I used the word inconsistent instead of bad, crappy, lousy, disgusting...you get the picture...because they just won a game.  Let me make it easy to understand.  The Steelers are 1-4.  They did win yesterday, and SteelerNation should rejoice, but at the same time lets keep things in perspective.  Its just ONE WIN.  A huge hill stands in front of the Steelers and if they want to make that climb they will have to beat the Ravens at home next Sunday.  Would you rather have anyone else coming to Heinz Field?  If the Steelers win...THEN and only then should the fans begin to look "big picture".  If the Steelers lose, that hill just turned into a mountain.  Enjoy the win SteelerNation...Lord knows when it will come again, but always remember the big picture.
