RECAP - Rockies - 10 / Pirates - 1

Pittsburgh Pirates - 1
Colorado Rockies - 10

WP - De La Rosa
LP - Francisco Liriano

This might be the shortest recap that I've ever done for this site.  Plain and simple, there isn't much to say other than Liriano (the club's new 'Ace') got teed off on, and the Pirates might have set a record for most times with bases loaded and not scoring a run.  First inning.  Marte singles.  Mare gets picked off.  Next 3 batters single to have bases loaded for Pedro Alvarez.  Pedro did what Pedro does with a runner at 3rd with less than 2 outs...he struckout.  From there it all went downhill.  The Pirates had 4 hits in the first inning and had NOTHING to show for it. The bottom of the inning was the complete opposite.  The Rockies scored 3 runs on 3 hits.

I am ending this recap with this.  If the Pirates are true contenders for the division, the NL, and a possible World Series team, the offense needs to drive in runs when they are available.  The teams the Pirates might play in the postseason are not going to be throwing out junk arms....they will all be legit pitchers who aren't going to allow a ton of base runners.  This is something the Pirates have struggled with the last 3 years.  There have been sparks of steps in the right direction, but the main issue still remains.  It needs to improve so I don't feel like killing someone every time the Pirates leave the bases jammed with 1 out.

8/10 - 8:10 - Pirates @ Rockies - Burnett vs. Nicasio
8/11 - 4:10 - Pirates @ Rockies - Locke vs. Bettis
